Description
Dating from the 16th century, Pair of Gargoyles depicting hard stone lion.
Gargoyles have a dual function that is both technical and symbolic.
The gargoyle is the salient part of a gutter that allows the evacuation of rainwater at a good distance from the wall.
They also play a symbolic and decorative role: to protect and ward off evil from churches. They are the guardians of the buildings on which they are carved. The realization of the gargoyles being not subject to any rule, the scultpors gave free rein to their imagination. There is therefore a very important variety of gargoyles.

Here the animals represented are lions. An animal famous for its strength but also its dangerousness. The sculpture is very detailed at the level of the mane but also the legs of the animal.
