DESCRIPTION :
Dating from the mid 16th century, beautiful stone well with dome.
Circular in shape, the coping consists of four square base columns and smooth shanks, with Ionic capitals with horns adorned with festoons, and a daisy completing the carved decoration of the chests.Above, a very pretty stone dome comes to overcome the whole. It is carved with a pattern of overlapping scales reproducing a slate cover, plus a frieze of stylized daisies and stars.
The use of the daisy in the carved decoration refers to Marguerite d'Angouleme, known to be the sister of King Francois I of France. She was Queen of Navarre and was the mother of Jeanne d'Albret and therefore the grandmother of the King of France Henri IV. She is also known, to be one of the first women of French letters thanks to the writing of many news today gathered in a book: The Heptameron.

Provenance: Private property of Angoulême.
