Dated from the 18th century, Louis 15 period cast iron fireback presenting the biblical scene of the Sacrifice of Abraham in a rockery decoration.
Abraham, born in Ur, in Chaldea in 2215 BC - son of Tharé - father of Isaac, died in 2040 BC. When Isaac reached the age of 25, God, to test Abraham, ordered him to sacrifice his son. Abraham obeyed, and it wasn't until the weapon fell on Isaac that the God of the Jews stopped the arm of his servant.
